Death Valley
View from the camp site at Panamint Springs - we didn't camp alas. Amazing I made it through the night, fever, coughing etc pretty dire situation but for the sake of a good holiday I fought back the debilitating illness.
First point of call 'Zabriske Point' I am actually being corrected. The first point of call was the visitors centre (OK Julia?) this is where we purchased an annual pass for all the National Parks in the US and A - 300 something. OK Julia our avid readership base may be wondering where the dramatic spine of this entry is going. Back to the highlights and more importantly the photos - correct Rebecca?
Zabriske Point - immortalised in the minds of film buffs (all brave enough to sit through the experience) by the unique cinematic vision of the late great Antonioni. Neither Julia and I have seen the film. Hopefully its on the AFI screening calendar.
Badwater - lowest point in the Western Hemisphere - 258 feet below sea level. The area is covered in salt beds. Not too hot today either. In peak summer the highest recorded temperature was 55 degrees celsius. Last time Julia was here she refused to get out the car, and she claims she wasn't a problem child.
A tasty nutritious lunch at the Devil's Golf Course. Tested out the new primus stove. Excellent. Cooked up trader Joe lentils in seconds.
Hike round the Artists palette.....
....then to the sand dunes at Stovepipe Wells.
Back to the Panamint Springs Resort for another truly average supper....Oh Julia wants me to tell you all that due to my chronic illness I did manage to add to the methane content of the atmosphere. Thank you Julia for reminding me to add this little note. It was impress though!
